Until the Bloukrans Bridge was built, travelers had to follow a pass that would wind down to the river bed, and then climb back up the other side through a series of hairpin turns and bends. When the bridge was built, it shaved 15km off of the journey and provided a platform for the highest bungee jump in the world. It attracts tens of thousands of tourists to the area every year.
