Designed by 27 year-old architect and sculptor Peter Parlor, the Charles Bridge has provided passage over Prague’s Vitava River for over six centuries. Parlor was the most famous member of a dynasty of masons, active in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.

Named after King Charles IV, the Charles Bridge was built to allow four carriages to cross at the same time. It rests on 16 arches and is decorated with 75 statues. Today, it is a pedestrian bridge, linking Prague’s historic Old Town and Lesser Quarter district.
